This post began with the idea of finding natural and healthy remedies to common ailments like a sore throat, headache, constipation, gas and bloating, toothache, etc.. So we began to research various recommended and effective solutions and one of our writers happened to have a sore throat at the time. She found the following recipe using Apple Cider Vinegar. It has a high level of acidity which means it can kill bacteria quite efficiently, and when mixed with honey it can soothe the soreness in your throat as well. The recipe calls for:
-1 tablespoon of Apple Cider Vinegar
-1 tablespoon of honey
-1 cup of very warm water
Mix the Apple Cider Vinegar and honey into very warm water. Drink it while it’s still warm! If you don’t want to swallow it (and it does have a strong taste) try 2 tablespoons of Apple Cider Vinegar and mix with ½ cup warm water. Gargle once a day.
The taste was indeed a bit strong but not overpowering and the honey did indeed soothe the throat. It provided relief for a few hours and after 48 hrs (using 3x/day) the sore throat was pretty much gone. It’s a much better alternative (in our view) than the chemical laden over the counter sore throat medications.
