Barking Becoming A Problem?

First off, it’s important to realize that dogs love to bark. It’s a perfectly natural thing for your dog to do, just as it’s natural for us to speak. The problems arise when our dogs bark excessively, so the goal really isn’t to stop dog barking altogether, but rather to control the excessive barking.

Some dogs are specifically bred to bark (like certain terriers and hounds) but in general, they are many reasons that dogs bark – here are just a few:

  • They are staking out their territory
  • Through boredom or a lack of physical and mental stimulation
  • To alert other members of their pack (you or a family member) of impending danger
  • When playing, just through sheer excitement
  • Barking at other animals such as squirrels or any other small animal
  • If they are isolated and feel alone
  • When separated from their pack (you and your family)
  • If trapped behind some type of barrier like a fence or window
  • And of course, sometimes just for fun!

Proper dog obedience training is the key to solving any behavioral problems (including stopping your dog from barking).  Training is also critical to building a strong bond with your dog in order to effect these behavioral changes.

We found this fun little infographic from the good folks at Pet365 which offers some interesting and enlightening statistics on dog training.

Just look at the stats on how many dog owners have either never done training or went briefly but didn’t continue. Most dog owners fly by the seat of their pants and then wonder why their dog jumps all over people when they walk through the door, ignores commands and develops behavior problems later in life.

So we did our own research and found an exceptional dog training program called “The Complete Puppy Training Package
